FLETCHER OFFERING FREE MARINE CO-OP TRAINING

Fletcher Technical Community College announced that it is offering a tuition-free training program to individuals who want to enter the marine industry. The program, called the Marine Co-op, will train individuals who have no formal training or sea service experience as Entry-level Ordinary Seamen. It is comprised of three, six-week phases. After completion of the first six-week phase, students will enter a second phase as interns. Students are assisted in placement in this paid internship with local maritime companies. Some internships pay over $100 a day. Once the internship phase is completed, students return to Fletcher for the remaining six weeks of training. Upon completion of which, they will receive a certificate as an Able Bodied Seaman. A career as an Able Bodied Seaman has an industry average pay of $200 a day.

Faculty and Staff receive awards

conference winnersThe Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Conference Day took place on August 11 to 13 at the Hilton Capital Center in Baton Rouge. Three Fletcher Technical Community College faculty and staff received awards at the conference banquet on Sunday, August 12. The award recipients are as follows:

  • Lisa Hidalgo, Outstanding Professional Staff
  • Angela Hebert, Outstanding Professional Support Staff

FLETCHER TO OFFER ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN NURSING

Fletcher's new ASN program is an associate degree that will prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Upon Louisiana State Board of Nursing approval in December, thirty students will be selected to participate in Fletcher's spring 2008 ASN program. Admission requirements and applications for the spring 2008 class are now available online at www.ftcc.edu.
